Kim Clijsters Defeats Venus Williams

RR here -

WTF? We are a little behind... and just watching the Venus-Clijsters match. Kimmy gets the bagel and it's like, oh wow, look at her. Then Venus bagels back and it's like, what? What is happening here? You people are weird. So far the 3rd set is more like a normal set, closer. Wait Clijsters just got an early break in the 3rd.

P just noted how Kimmy fiercely not looks on the changeovers. like, fiercely stares not at Venus - at nothing in fact. She seems fiercer. Motherhood has made her fiercer? It's possible -she is defending her cub against a predator! In this case, Venus Williams. Who wishes to devour her cub. Because such is the harsh law of nature.

So is this going to be a match or what? P missed the second set washing her face. It was about 9 minutes. Now Kimmy is rolling, perhaps? This is a very weird match.

So yes we are behind, nobody say anything about what happens. Especially you folks on Facebook - please, don't discuss, allude to, indicate, or otherwise reveal in any way the results of matches until at least 72 hours after they are done! This is the Tivo age people!

The 3rd set is more like normal tennis. Rooting for Kim becuase of the comeback thing. I would also like to see Henin come back - it's just always interesting. The last couple of big comebacks have ended not because of tennis, but for other reasons. Davenport seemed to lose interest and decided to have another kid, and Hingis had the coke controversy and was (seemingly) like, "screw you tennis world". So will Kimmy stay with it or?

Wow! Kim won it! Feel bad for Venus, but happy fo Kim. Even she said it was a weird match. It was. Anyway GO KIM!

Agnes Szavay Defeats Venus Williams

What? A bagel? Breakfast served up to VENUS? I find it hard to believe. And I didn't see it. My tennis teacher told me about the upset early this morning even though he knows I tape it and watch it later in the day. He goofed. I forgive him. He is a super big sweetheart so he can make a booboo once in a while and my heart does not waver.

More soon?

Venus WIlliams v.Safarova

Venus is up a break in the second. I know she lost the first, and I know that clay is not the best surface for Venus, but I still can see her winning this.

This third set is FANTASTIC!!!! I can't blog right now, cause I'm watching it.
Well, Venus- I called you pulling it out, but I had no idea what a great, great match it would be! Whoah.

What's next? Fed and Acasuso? Tight first set, I saw. Aaaah.

More later.

Paula

I Had a Great Nap in Front of Tennis Today

I got back from a week in the Dominican Republic last night to....aaahhh, lots of DVRed tennis. I played a lot of tennis in the "DR", and I watched Nadal beat Murray in the final for Indian Wells on a large screen at an Italian bar. The commentary was in Spanish and I sat next to two old Italian dudes who looked like they'd spent the entire day drinking and smoking, which is probably was just reality.

I napped through Nadal beating Gil today. Aaah. Now, I woke to watch the end of Venus and Radswanka - good three setter. Venus wigged out there a bit at the end and then pulled through. I was happy to Richard in the audience- not sure why, but I dig him more than Oracene.

Now, I watch Murray and Massu. I hate both of these guys, but I hate Massu more. He didn't sign my kids balls (Andy Roddick is the only other guy approached who didn't). He also exudes "asshole". Murray, too, is not the "nicest" guy out there. But if I was forced to pick, say, one of these guys to win this match? I would pick Murray. And everyone here knows how much I generally love the Latin guys. But man, Massu does not count. Basically, he's Hungarian, so maybe that's what his problem is. Although, I too, have some Hungarian in me. I guess if I were a dude I wouldn't think I was hot. Or something. Although, I am not an asshole. I am a very nice lady.

Suarez Navarro defeats Venus Williams

Third Set! I watched boatlaods of tennis, napped, woke- and third set! I actually saw this whole match. But I feel stunned to a whole new wakefulness here in a third. Now, I'll take some caffeine.

Wow. The Spaniard isn't intimidated! I would be. She's nuts. But it's making for great tennis. Venus is playing pretty well here, I think it's the third deuce. It's the second game in the third set. It was the longest game in the match so far and Navarro pulled it out! Yeah, tennis. No one getting whomped. I hate it when it's one sided, like that Nadal match the other day against C. Rochus I, literally, could not watch.

Well, now Venus is up 3/1 here. This is more sensible. Maybe Navarro is having that thing happen, like in the cartoons from my childhood, where the cartoon character just runs and runs and runs, right over a cliff, into the air, keeps running IN the air, but then!- She looks down! Sees where she is! And boom! She falls. We'll see. It's not over yet. Just thinking.

5/4 here in the third. Venus flubbed a match point. Now she sprayed some more. Hmm. Even the fancy pros show nerves??? The pressure? Come on Venus. Show us why you are who you are! Wow. 5 all!!! This is good stuff. Please, TV people, don't go back to the not very exciting Blake match (more one sided than this by far). Stay here!

Holy CRAP! Venus really made a bunch of errors. But Navarro- she played well, within herself, never looked down at the abyss like those aforementioned cartoon characters. And Venus- so well mannered! So gracious. I love that. WOW.

Now, the dreaded press conference. If I had a choice of doing a press conference, or getting beat up by a drunk bitch at the bar, I think I would choose the latter. They are pretty awful. Painful! The questions! If I had a choice between doing a press conference or say, letting three dogs pee all over my leg, I would choose the latter. If I had a choice between doing a press conference and...(your idea here) join in in the comments below!!! (BTW- Venus is handling it well. She's a pro.)

Paula
